The Enclave

Thoughts from the depths..

Standing Start

I've watched this video countless times before training. At times, I mistakenly watched it the night before a race; ushering blood and adrenaline into my system at a time when I really should have been resting and winding down to get to sleep.

If this video does for you what it does for me, you're in the right place. As we step out into the battlefield, we approach with excitment. That nervous kind of excitment that you get before a race or competition. The adrenaline molds your vision into one of you succeeding on your own terms burning an image in your mind that has now become your destiny. We are hungry, hungry for more. We want to go fast, and then faster. We are speed junkies and adrenaline addicts.

I can do little to improve upon the narrative done in this video - but it captures the virtues of athletics perfectly. Motly lost in the lights and egos of professional sports, they are what attracted me to sports when I was younger. The examination of one's self, the wearyness you must face in the pursuit of excellence, and the realisation of the power of human will.

This blog will be full of fuel for you if you have these virtues. I have an analytical and skeptical mind, so I'll be doing lots of evidence based discussion on research papers and articles in the realm of sports nutrition and exercise. Dietary fads, supplements, exercise technique, fitness culture, and more are on the table here.

This is an odd first blog post perhaps, but it is my standing start in a new home with new challenges ahead. Next up, an intro....
